Ukrainian Marriage Customs

A Ukrainian marriage is a lengthy affair with numerous festivals and conventions. The Rushnyk service, where the partners is drenched in ceremonial towel to encapsulate their union, is the most significant. The bride’s and groom’s families give their formal approval to the coalition during this service. Traditional suburbanites bands provide pleasure throughout the night, frequently playing dazzling melodies that make people dancing the day away. One of my favorites games is when the newlyweds dancing while carrying a loaf of bread on their faces to demonstrate that they are strong enough as a pair to overcome any obstacles.

The bride’s matching and viewing may typically take place two to four weeks before the actual wedding ceremony. The groom may visit the woman’s residence to provide himself, his gifts, and, if the family wanted, ask for her hand in marriage along with his father, elders, and godfathers.

A squash would be presented to the couple’s gathering as a signal that he was not accepted if the lady refused. The girls’ families would get ready for the ceremony during this period. They would adorn their homes with flowers and rushnyky (embroidered towels ) and prepare a lot of food.

The bride and groom’s families bring their marriage bread, which is baked by women who are specially chosen for this role, to the Korovai festival, which is the cornerstone of the wedding. The bread is typically decorated with dough-made animals and blossoms like parrots, rose, and periwinkles, or viburnum ukrainian brides, which has white blossoms that turn into red berries. Who among the pair is said to be the head of the household if they bite off the largest piece of korovai without using their hands?
